Who We Are

A group of people of all ages, from many backgrounds and different locations, united in our desire to put God first, and to share His love with those who do not yet know Him. We have photos below of the entire congregation, the congregation at Christmas and the Elders. Please click on a photograph to enlarge it.

The Entire Congregation         The Christmas Congregation         The Elders

The following events are the key ones since 1980, happening under God:

Year Event
1980 Sub Committee set up to look at future prospects as the futility of wasting money on maintaining a large and unsuitable downtown property becomes more and more obvious.
1983 Mother and Toddler group started.
1987 Playgroup for local children started. First community carol service.
1988 Dolebusters started as an initiative to help unemployed people. It has placed 700 people in jobs and now employs 22 staff.
1989 Congregational AGM agreed to seek planning permission for demolishing the present building behind the front facade. The rebuilding would incorporate church space, offices and accommodation.
1991 The hall is now in use seven days a week. Children's holiday club started.
1992 A remarkable series of events in a short space of time - clear transfer of freehold, site rezoning, lifting of preservation order - culminated in planning permission being granted. Presbytery Visitation Committee said "Tell the people to go forward."
1994 Plans announced for building new apartments, offices, shops and hotels on derelict sites near the church. A light rail system is also planned for the area.
1996 Congregational AGM agrees to proceed to seek revised planning permission excluding commercial portion of development. Later full planning permission is granted. Approval and support received from Presbyterian Church architectural committee an local presbytery.
1997 Newly inaugurated President, Mary McAleese visits ARD for our Civic Carol Service.
1998 Two books published by members of the congregation in aid of the Road Ahead Project;' Frankly Speaking '..funny stories from the clergy, compiled by Rev Frank Sellar, and' A Christmas Tail.'.for children by Jenny Reid.
1999 Kirk Session hold a conference called 'Clearing our Vision'; out of which arises our 5 identified priorities;Worship,Word,Welcome,Witness and Works. A new book called 'Living Well' is launched...A year of Bible reflection with 77 Christians of Ireland. This is compiled by the minister, Rev Frank Sellar.
2000 12th November, the final service takes place in our old church building, and on 19th November we meet for the first time in our temporary home, the YMCA Aungier St. The redevelopment begins! Home groups now meeting in 5 locations throughout the city.
2001 Taskgroups now up and running, seeking to implement ideas arising from our 5 'W's. Four of our young people are now serving God overseas, and two others going in the summer time to France and China. To date, a miraculous £1.8m given or pledged to the Road Ahead project, with £1.7m still required at this exciting half way point.

It has been estimated that while 20,000 people left central Dublin between 1981 and 1991, 35,000 people moved in between 1991 and the 2000. We believe that the events outlined above confirm that we are being called to this project and to share Jesus' love with those around.
